From Scratch to #1 on Google Maps

- THE REAL PROBLEM
More Leads Aren’t the Problem. Depending on One Source Is.
Tree service companies get into trouble when their entire pipeline depends on referrals, Angi, Thumbtack, one Google Ads campaign or an SEO company telling them to “wait another six months.”
- Then one channel slows down.
- The phone gets quiet.
- And your crews feel it first

Shared Leads
Angi and Thumbtack can sell the same opportunity to multiple tree companies. Now you’re competing for a lead you already paid for.

One-Channel Dependency
If your entire pipeline depends on Google Ads, referrals or one ranking, one bad month can leave crews without enough work.

The “SEO Takes Time” Excuse
SEO does take time. That doesn’t mean your marketing company gets six months to do nothing while you wait.
You don't need one source of source of leads You need multiple ways for homeowners to find and choose you.
- THE SYSTEM
Four Growth Engines. One Goal: Keep Your Crews Working.
Instead of betting your business on one marketing channel, we build multiple customer acquisition engines that work together, so your company can generate demand now while building long-term visibility.

01 — Google Maps
Get Found When Homeowners Search Nearby.
Google Business Profile optimization, weekly activity, reviews, competitive analysis and GeoGrid tracking designed to move you higher across your service area.

02 — Organic Search
Turn Your Website Into an Asset That Compounds.
Service pages, city pages, technical SEO, content and backlinks designed to put your company in front of homeowners already searching for tree work.

03 — Paid Demand
Generate Calls While Organic Rankings Grow.
Google Ads, Local Services Ads and Meta campaigns built around the services your company actually wants more of.

04 — Direct Mail
Reach Homeowners Before They Ever Search Google.
Targeted campaigns put your company directly inside the homes and neighborhoods you want to work in.
One company. Multiple ways to get hired.
Engine #1 — Google Business Profile
- GROWTH ENGINE #01
Own More of the Map Where Your Customers Are Searching.
When a homeowner searches “tree service near me,” showing up three towns away doesn’t help.
We work to increase your visibility across the actual cities, ZIP codes and counties your crews serve, not just around your office address.
- Google Business Profile optimization
- Services and category optimization
- Weekly photos and posts
- Profile creation, verification and recovery when needed
- Review management
- Competitor and spam monitoring
- Weekly GeoGrid tracking
Engine #2 — Local SEO
- GROWTH ENGINE #02
Build a Website That Generates Work, Not Just One That Looks Good.
Your website should become one of the strongest customer acquisition assets your company owns.
We build the site around the services you sell and the areas you actually want to dominate, then keep expanding it every month.
Service Pages
Service Pages Tree removal, trimming, stump grinding, emergency service etc.
City Pages
Pages targeting the towns and service areas where you want more work.
Content Every Week
2–3 new articles designed around homeowner searches and local authority.
Authority Building
Consistent backlink acquisition.
Technical SEO
Schema, speed, on-page SEO, internal linking and technical fixes.
Engine #3 — Pay Per Click Ads
- GROWTH ENGINE #03
Don't Wait Six Months for SEO to Start Making the Phone Ring.
SEO builds long-term demand. Paid campaigns help create opportunities while that asset is growing.
Google Search Ads
Capture homeowners actively searching for tree services.
Local Services Ads
Compete for high-intent calls at the top of Google.
Meta Ads
Create demand around profitable services and seasonal opportunities.
Retargeting
Stay in front of homeowners who visited but weren't ready to call yet.
Weekly optimization — not “set it and forget it.”.
Negative keywords, location targeting, budget adjustments, call reviews and campaign optimization every week.
Engine #4 — Direct Maill
- GROWTH ENGINE #04
Not Every Homeowner Looking at a Dead Tree Is Searching Google Today.
Direct mail puts your company in front of homeowners before they ever type “tree service near me.”

Tree Service Advertising Is Different From Advertising Other Home Services
Tree service advertising is not about generating the largest possible number of clicks.
It is about putting your company in front of the right homeowner, in the right territory, for the right service, at a customer acquisition cost that makes sense for the job.
A $2,000 trimming project, a $10,000 hazardous removal and an emergency crane job should not be marketed as if they were the same service.
Digital Farmers builds advertising campaigns specifically around the economics of tree care companies.
That includes:
- Google Ads
- Local Services Ads
- Meta Ads on Facebook and Instagram
- Nextdoor advertising when the market supports it
- Yelp advertising when the economics justify it
- Retargeting
- Call tracking and lead attribution
We combine those channels with your Google Business Profile, website, SEO and customer data so paid advertising does not operate in isolation.
The objective is simple.
Generate qualified opportunities that your crews can turn into profitable work.
Why Tree Service Owners Choose Digital Farmers Over General Marketing Agencies
A general marketing agency may manage a dentist on Monday, an e-commerce store on Tuesday and your tree company on Wednesday.
We already understand the searches, services and sales economics behind tree care.
We know that “emergency tree removal near me” behaves differently from “tree trimming.”
We know that a company with a crane can pursue different opportunities from a smaller tree operation.
We know that storm damage can change demand overnight.
We know that Meta Ads can generate inexpensive volume while Google Search usually captures stronger immediate intent.
We know that the cheapest cost per lead does not automatically produce the best customer.
Advertising Experience Since 2015
Digital Farmers is led by Rafael Coltro, who has worked in digital marketing since 2015 and has managed approximately $8 million in paid media.
Today, Digital Farmers manages advertising and customer acquisition strategies for tree service companies across multiple U.S. markets.
One Tree Service Company Per Protected County
We do not run competing advertising strategies for multiple tree companies inside the same protected county.
Once a territory is protected by an active client, we do not accept another direct tree service competitor for that county.
No Percentage Markup on Ad Spend
Your advertising budget is separate from our management fee.
If you increase your Google Ads budget, we do not automatically take a larger percentage of your media spend.
Your money goes toward generating demand.
The Advertising Channels We Use for Tree Service Companies
Different channels capture different stages of homeowner demand.
That is why we rarely evaluate a platform based only on cost per lead.
Google Ads: Capture Homeowners Already Looking for Tree Work
Google Search Ads work best when someone already knows they need a tree company.
They search:
- tree service near me
- tree removal near me
- emergency tree service
- tree trimming near me
- stump grinding near me
- arborist near me
- tree removal + city
These searches often have high purchase intent.
The homeowner is not casually scrolling social media.
They are actively looking for someone to perform the work.
That generally makes Google leads more expensive than Meta leads, but also more likely to arrive with immediate intent.
Local Services Ads: Compete at the Top of Local Search
Local Services Ads give eligible tree service companies another way to appear when homeowners search for local tree care.
Unlike traditional Google Ads, LSA generally operates around paid leads rather than paid clicks.
We manage budget, service types, targeting, lead quality and account performance while coordinating LSA with the rest of your Google strategy.
Your Google Business Profile, reviews and business verification also matter because homeowners evaluate trust before contacting a company.
Meta Ads: More Volume at a Lower Cost
Facebook and Instagram work differently.
The homeowner may not have opened Facebook planning to hire a tree service.
We interrupt attention with a problem, service or offer relevant to the homeowner.
Meta can generate significantly more lead volume at a lower cost than Google in many markets.
The tradeoff is intent.
A Google Search lead may actively need tree removal today.
A Meta lead may have seen an ad, recognized a problem and requested information even though the project was not already top of mind.
This means Meta leads usually require stronger follow-up.
Nextdoor Advertising
Nextdoor can be useful when neighborhood density and homeowner demographics fit the campaign.
Tree work is highly local and highly visible.
When one homeowner removes or trims several trees, neighboring homeowners often notice.
We consider Nextdoor as an additional channel when the market and available audience justify the spend.
Yelp Advertising
Yelp can also generate local home service demand in selected markets.
We do not recommend advertising on a platform simply because the platform exists.
We look at market behavior, lead economics and actual results before deciding whether Yelp deserves part of the budget.
Google Ads vs. Facebook Ads for Tree Service Companies
Tree service owners frequently ask which is better.
The answer depends on what you want the channel to do.
Google Ads Captures Existing Demand
Someone searching “tree removal near me” already understands the problem.
They are often closer to requesting an estimate.
Google typically produces lower volume at a higher cost per lead, but the lead usually has stronger buying intent.
Meta Ads Creates Demand
Facebook and Instagram allow us to reach homeowners before they search.
Meta usually produces more volume and lower CPL.
Lead quality is generally lower than high-intent Google Search traffic because the homeowner did not begin the journey by actively searching for a contractor.
We Prefer Using Them Together
Google captures people ready to act.
Meta reaches homeowners who have a problem but may not be searching yet.
Retargeting gives us another opportunity to reach people who already interacted with your company.
The right question is not “Google or Facebook?”
The better question is how much budget each deserves based on your market and crew capacity.
What a Tree Service Lead Costs
There is no universal cost per lead for tree service advertising.
Geography, competition, season, service, campaign maturity and lead type all affect the number.
These ranges are useful benchmarks when planning a campaign:
| Channel | Typical Cost Per Lead | Lead Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Organic SEO & Meta Ads | Approximately $33.99 per lead | Higher volume, mixed intent |
| Google Ads | Approximately $57-$127 per lead | Higher search intent |
| Local Services Ads | Approximately $32-$71 per lead | High local intent |
These are planning ranges, not guaranteed prices.
A crane removal lead in a competitive Massachusetts market should not be expected to cost exactly the same as a trimming lead in rural Montana.
Cost Per Lead Is Only One Number
A $30 lead that never books an estimate can be more expensive than a $100 lead that becomes a $7,500 removal.
We evaluate:
- Cost per lead
- Cost per acquisition
- Lead quality
- Booked estimates
- Close rate
- Average job value
- Return on ad spend
- Collected revenue when data is available
The objective is profitable customer acquisition, not winning a contest for the cheapest CPL.
How Much Should a Tree Service Spend on Advertising?
The right budget depends on market size, competition and how much additional work your crews can handle.
We typically think about media budget in ranges.
Smaller or Lower-Competition Market
$1,500-$2,500 per month in advertising
This can work for smaller service areas where search volume and competitive pressure are limited.
Medium-Sized Market
$2,500-$5,000 per month in advertising
This gives us more room to split budget between Google Search, Local Services Ads and Meta while collecting enough data to optimize campaigns.
Competitive Metro Market
$5,000+ per month in advertising
Larger metropolitan markets usually have more search demand and more advertisers competing for the same homeowner.
A company with multiple crews may also need substantially more lead volume than an owner-operator.
These amounts are media budget only.
Management fees are separate.
Tree Service Advertising Case Study: LedNew Tree Care
LedNew Tree Care uses a multi-channel customer acquisition strategy across Local Services Ads, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Maps and SEO.
The value of this case is that we can compare performance across channels instead of pretending every lead source behaves the same.
112 Local Services Ads Leads in 30 Days
In the reporting period from August 14 to September 12, 2026, LedNew’s Local Services Ads account recorded 112 charged leads on $5,893.23 in lead spend.
The lead mix included phone, message and booking leads.

Google Ads Generated Calls and Form Leads
During another recent 30-day period, LedNew’s Google Ads campaigns generated approximately 55 phone-call lead actions and 13 form submissions on $2,929.31 in spend.

This is a high-intent channel built around people actively searching Google for tree work.
Meta Ads at $39.32 Per Lead
LedNew’s Meta campaign recorded 32 form leads at $39.32 per result in the reporting screenshot.

This illustrates the channel tradeoff.
Meta can generate lower-cost lead volume, while Google tends to capture people with stronger immediate search intent.
Advertising Supports a Larger Growth System
LedNew has collected more than $1.28 million in customer payments in the Jobber reporting shared with Digital Farmers and has reached a peak month of approximately $200,000.
We do not claim that a single advertising platform generated all of that revenue.
The company uses multiple acquisition channels working together.
Tree Service Advertising Case Study: East Coast Tree Services
East Coast Tree Services is another example of why channel-level tracking matters.
The business uses Local Services Ads, Google Ads and Meta campaigns alongside its broader organic marketing strategy.
Local Services Ads
A recent LSA reporting period recorded 56 charged leads on $3,494.59 in lead spend.

Google Ads
The Google Ads account recorded 53 phone-call leads during the displayed 30-day reporting period, with the dashboard showing a $115.05 cost per conversion for that phone-call conversion metric.

Google leads cost more, but the user is actively searching for tree service work.
Meta Ads
East Coast’s Meta campaign generated 30 form leads at $41.50 per lead in the reporting screenshot.

Again, Meta produced cheaper volume than the high-intent Google channel.
Nearly 250 Leads Per Month Across the System
Across its broader customer acquisition system, East Coast Tree Services has been receiving close to 250 leads per month while keeping three crews working daily and maintaining approximately one week of backlog.
That is how we evaluate advertising.
Not only by platform metrics.
By what those opportunities allow the business to do operationally.
How We Track Tree Service Advertising Performance
Advertising platforms love reporting conversions.
We want to know what those conversions actually were.
Phone Call Tracking
We track inbound calls so we can identify which campaigns, keywords and channels generated them.
Form Tracking
Estimate requests and lead forms are tracked back to their source whenever the available systems allow it.
SMS Leads
Text inquiries can also represent valuable homeowner intent and should not disappear from reporting.
Cost Per Acquisition
CPL tells us how much it costs to generate an inquiry.
CPA goes further and asks what it costs to acquire an actual customer.
Return on Ad Spend
ROAS compares revenue generated with advertising spend when revenue attribution is available.
We prefer collected revenue over theoretical pipeline value whenever the client’s CRM gives us access to that data.
Lead Quality
A campaign producing cheap leads outside the service area is not performing well.
A campaign producing fewer calls for profitable tree removals may be much more valuable.
What to Expect in Your First 90 Days of Tree Service Advertising
Days 1-14: Build the Tracking and Campaign Foundation
We start with the market, services, territory and numbers.
Work can include:
- Market and competitor analysis
- Keyword research
- Service prioritization
- Service-area targeting
- Google Ads structure
- Local Services Ads setup or audit
- Meta campaign setup
- Landing page review
- Call tracking
- Form tracking
- Conversion setup
- Negative keyword planning
Days 15-30: Launch and Collect Real Data
Once campaigns launch, we stop making decisions based entirely on assumptions.
Real homeowners start showing us which searches, locations, ads and services generate activity.
Days 31-60: Optimize Lead Economics
We analyze:
- Search terms
- Negative keywords
- Cost per lead
- Lead quality
- Call quality
- Geographic performance
- Device performance
- Ad creative
- Landing page performance
- Budget allocation
Money begins shifting toward what is working.
Days 61-90: Scale the Winners
Once enough data exists, we can increase investment in services, audiences and markets showing stronger economics.
We also reduce or eliminate spending that consistently generates weak opportunities.
The objective is not to spend the budget.
The objective is to make the budget productive.
Advertising for Storm Season and Emergency Tree Removal
Tree service demand can change dramatically after severe weather.
Searches for emergency tree removal, storm damage cleanup and fallen tree service can increase quickly.
A campaign that works during a normal week may need different priorities after a storm.
Budget Can Shift Toward Emergency Intent
Google Ads and Local Services Ads can capture homeowners actively searching for immediate help.
Geographic Targeting Becomes More Important
Emergency work needs to be inside an area your crews can realistically reach.
Speed to Lead Matters
An emergency homeowner may call several companies in minutes.
The faster your team answers and schedules the estimate, the better the opportunity becomes.
Common Tree Service Advertising Mistakes
Sending Every Service Into One Campaign
Emergency removal, trimming and stump grinding have different intent and economics.
They should not automatically be treated as one product.
Optimizing Only for Cheap Leads
Cheap does not mean profitable.
Look at service type, booked estimates and revenue.
Running Broad Geography
A cheap lead sixty miles outside your service area is not cheap.
It is wasted money.
Ignoring Negative Keywords
Search terms such as jobs, salary, DIY, equipment rental or unrelated services can consume budget if campaigns are not actively managed.
Using Facebook Ads Without a Follow-Up System
Meta produces lower-intent leads.
Waiting two days to respond can destroy the economics of a campaign that looked good inside Ads Manager.
Judging Campaigns Only by ROAS Inside the Platform
Google, Meta and other platforms see only part of the customer journey.
Call tracking, CRM data and collected revenue create a better picture.
Turning Advertising Off Every Time Crews Get Busy
Campaigns can be adjusted rather than repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt.
When backlog grows, we can shift toward higher-ticket work, future demand or organic growth.
Tree Service Advertising vs. Buying Leads From Angi, HomeAdvisor or Thumbtack
Lead marketplaces and advertising are different business models.
Platforms such as Angi Leads, HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack can connect contractors with homeowners who entered their marketplace.
Advertising lets you generate demand around your own business.
The homeowner sees your brand.
The campaign runs through your advertising account.
The call comes to your company.
The website belongs to you.
The customer relationship belongs to you.
Our goal is to make your company progressively less dependent on renting access to another company’s audience.
Tree Service Advertising for Arborists and Professional Tree Care Companies
Marketing should reflect what makes the business different.
If your company has an ISA Certified Arborist, that credential can help differentiate tree health assessments, pruning and risk evaluations.
If your company belongs to the Tree Care Industry Association, that can be an additional trust signal.
If you own cranes, bucket trucks or specialized equipment, those capabilities can support campaigns around larger and more difficult work.
We only advertise credentials and capabilities the business actually has.
The goal is to attract customers who understand why professional tree work is worth paying for.
How Much Does Tree Service Advertising Management Cost?
Standalone advertising management with Digital Farmers starts at $800 per month.
Advertising spend is separate.
We do not charge a percentage markup on your media budget.
Management can include Google Ads, Local Services Ads and Meta Ads depending on the campaign strategy.
Nextdoor and Yelp can be evaluated when those channels make sense for the market.
Companies that also need SEO, Google Maps optimization, website growth, direct mail and CRM automation should compare standalone advertising management with our broader growth plans.
Tree Service Advertising Checklist: Are You Leaving Revenue on the Table?
- Can you identify exactly which channel generated each phone call?
- Do you know your cost per lead by platform?
- Do you know which services generate your highest-value customers?
- Are negative keywords reviewed regularly?
- Are you separating emergency work from routine services?
- Is your service area targeting based on where your crews actually work?
- Are Google Ads and Local Services Ads competing intelligently rather than blindly?
- Do Meta leads receive fast follow-up?
- Can you connect advertising leads to booked work?
- Can you connect booked work to collected revenue?
- Are you building your Google Business Profile and organic rankings while ads are running?
- Do you own your advertising accounts and data?
If several answers are no, your problem may not be the size of your advertising budget.
It may be how the budget is being managed.
Stop Guessing Where Your Next Tree Service Job Will Come From
Tree service advertising should be measurable.
You should know what you spent.
You should know how many calls came in.
You should know which channels generated them.
You should know what a lead costs.
And whenever possible, you should know which campaigns turned into collected revenue.
Digital Farmers builds that system around your company.
One tree service company per protected county.
- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Questions Tree Service Owners Ask Before Hiring Us.
1. How much does tree service advertising cost per month?
A practical starting advertising budget is often around $1,500 to $2,500 per month in smaller markets, $2,500 to $5,000 in medium markets, and $5,000 or more in competitive metro areas. These amounts refer to media spend. Digital Farmers’ standalone advertising management starts at $800 per month, and we do not charge a percentage markup on ad spend.
2. What's the average cost per lead for tree service companies using Google Ads?
A useful planning range for tree service Google Ads is approximately $57 to $127 per lead. Actual CPL varies significantly by location, competition, service and season. High-value searches such as emergency tree removal may cost more than lower-intent services, so we evaluate lead quality and revenue rather than CPL alone.
3. How much do Local Services Ads leads cost for tree service companies?
A useful nationwide planning range is approximately $32 to $71 per LSA lead. Actual costs depend on the market and competition. For example, LedNew Tree Care generated 112 charged LSA leads on $5,893.23 in lead spend during a recent 30-day reporting period.
4. Are Facebook Ads cheaper than Google Ads for tree services?
Meta Ads often generate leads at a lower cost than Google Search because Facebook and Instagram reach homeowners before they actively search. However, Meta leads normally have lower immediate intent. Google leads tend to cost more but often come from people already searching for tree services. A good advertising strategy uses each platform for the job it performs best.
5. Should tree services use Facebook Ads or Google Ads?
Most established tree companies should consider both. Google Ads captures existing demand from homeowners actively searching for tree removal, trimming or emergency work. Meta Ads creates additional demand and can generate higher lead volume at lower CPL. The best budget allocation depends on the market, services and crew capacity.
6. How long does it take for tree service advertising to work?
Google Ads and Local Services Ads can begin generating opportunities shortly after campaigns are approved and launched. The first 30 days are usually focused on collecting enough data to identify strong keywords, locations and services. Campaign efficiency generally improves as search terms, negatives, geographic targeting and budget allocation are optimized.
7. How long does tree service SEO take compared with advertising?
Advertising can generate visibility immediately after launch. SEO usually requires more time to build rankings and authority. We prefer combining the two. Advertising creates opportunities now while SEO builds an owned acquisition asset that can eventually generate traffic without paying for each individual click.
8. What is a good return on ad spend for a tree service company?
There is no universal ROAS target because average job value, margins, service mix and close rate vary. A company performing $8,000 removals can afford a very different customer acquisition cost from a company generating mostly small trimming jobs. We evaluate cost per lead, cost per acquisition, close rate, average ticket and collected revenue when the data is available.
9. How do I know if my tree service advertising is working?
Do not evaluate advertising only by impressions or clicks. Track inbound calls, forms, SMS inquiries, cost per lead, lead quality, booked estimates, customer acquisition cost and revenue. When CRM data is available, connecting campaign source to collected revenue gives the clearest picture of performance.
10. Is Meta Ads good for emergency tree removal?
Google usually has stronger immediate intent for emergency services because the homeowner is actively searching for help. Meta can still support storm preparation, retargeting and demand generation, but Google Ads, Local Services Ads and Google Maps generally deserve strong consideration when capturing urgent searches.
11. Do you manage Local Services Ads?
Yes. Digital Farmers manages Local Services Ads alongside Google Ads and Meta Ads. We review budget, services, territory, lead performance and account setup as part of the broader advertising strategy.
12. Do you advertise tree companies on Nextdoor and Yelp?
We can. Nextdoor and Yelp are secondary channels that we evaluate based on the specific market. We do not recommend allocating budget to a platform merely because it offers advertising. Search volume, homeowner behavior, competition and actual lead economics determine whether the channel deserves investment.
13. Does Digital Farmers charge a percentage of ad spend?
No. Advertising spend is separate from our management fee. Increasing your media budget does not automatically increase our compensation through a percentage markup.
14. What makes Digital Farmers different from other tree service advertising agencies?
Digital Farmers specializes in tree service customer acquisition. We understand the differences between emergency work, removal, trimming, arborist services and other tree care opportunities. We also combine paid advertising with Google Maps, SEO, tracking and customer data instead of treating every advertising platform as an isolated campaign.
15. Do you work with multiple tree services in the same city?
Digital Farmers protects clients by county. We work with one tree service company per protected county and do not accept another direct tree service competitor targeting that same protected territory.
16. Can you track phone calls from my tree service ads?
Yes. Call tracking is an important part of campaign attribution. We want to know which channels, campaigns and keywords generate inbound calls rather than relying only on conversion numbers reported by advertising platforms.
17. Can you advertise an ISA Certified Arborist?
Yes. If the company actually has an ISA Certified Arborist, that credential can be incorporated into advertising for services where professional arboricultural expertise matters. We do not advertise credentials a business does not possess.
18. Is advertising better than Angi Leads, HomeAdvisor or Thumbtack?
They are different acquisition models. Lead marketplaces provide access to demand generated inside their platforms. Paid advertising builds campaigns around your own brand, website, phone number and advertising accounts. We prefer building channels the tree service company controls rather than making the business permanently dependent on a third-party lead marketplace.
